Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus is always excited to welcome new singing members. If you are interested, please register for a vocal audition here on our website. You will meet with our artistic director Kathy Clark.
Auditions are on Monday, August 31 starting at 6:15PM, Dayton Westminster Presbyterian Church, downtown Dayton at 125 Wilkinson Street. Park across from the church in the lot; no need to pay the parking QR Code.
Be Prepared To:
1. match pitch (singing back accurately, the pattern that is played)
2. sing a brief 2 or 3 measure voice part from a song that is presented to you, while being played along with you.
3, discuss your commitment to Monday night rehearsals (7PM-9PM) and performances
THANK YOU for choosing to perhaps be a part of a great chorus and community where we sing, perform, have fun, and support each other.
Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have any additional questions, comments or concerns. On behalf of DGMC, we're very much looking forward to meeting you!
Best regards,
Wyatt Linder, Membership Director

Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus
Auditions Q & A
Q: I do not have a strong musical background. I’ve never sung in a chorus before. Can I still be in the chorus?
A: YES! We have members who only sang in the shower before joining, some who have advanced musical degrees, and everything in between. Part of DGMC’s formula of success is to take a mix of singers with diverse experiences in music. In addition to singing, we also need members with skills in many other areas.
Q: How often does DGMC rehearse?
A: We rehearse every Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:30pm, with sectional and other special rehearsals as needed.
Q: Are there financial obligations associated with membership?
A: Members of DGMC are required to pay the following:
Dues are $90 a year which can be paid in 3 $30 installments
Wardrobe is approximately $125, a one-time payment
Other small incidental expenses
Financial assistance is available. Complete information on costs and assistance will be available at the New Member Orientation.
Q: Do I need to prepare a song for the audition?
A: Not unless you want to. There may also be exercises geared toward blending, harmonizing and voice placement. It is very non-threatening, and you will be made to feel completely comfortable.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Whatever makes you feel comfortable!
Q: What should I bring?
A: Just yourself.
Q: What time should I arrive?
A: Please arrive no more than 15 minutes ahead of time, as we anticipate the evening will be tightly scheduled. Regular practice will be held the same evening as your auditoin.
Q: What happens during the audition itself?
A: DGMC’s Artistic Director, Kathy Clark will hear each person. The vocal placement will consist of your song if you bring one, or a portion of it, followed by a few exercises which will enable the staff to assess your vocal range and ability. The whole process takes only a few minutes and will be over before you know it.
Q: How do I find out whether or not I made it?
A: We will let you know that evening and your first rehearsal will be that night.
Q: I still have more questions.
A: Definitely feel free to contact us with your inquiries!
Thank you for your interest in DGMC. We look forward to meeting you very soon.
